What are the different stages of academic editing?
Academic editing is divided into three stages: structural editing, copy editing, and proofreading. The sort of editing that is most appropriate for academic work is determined by its scope and quality.
Structural editing: The editor considers the bigger picture, including the structure, format, tone, style, spacing, and flow of the document, as well as the language quality. The goal is to make the entire manuscript well-structured and publishable.
Copy editing: The copy editor double-
checks the content for grammar and
consistency of the language. Copy
editing increases the overall efficacy
of the content by polishing the
language, correcting grammatical,
punctuation, and spelling mistakes,
and improving the overall
effectiveness of the text.
